Bank
The Vermillion State Bank was built in Vermillion, MN. and opened for business on August 10, 1918. The
Certificate of Incorporation was signed by John Heinen, Frank W. Finch, William E. Beerse, Mathias A. Doffing,
John Kasel, John Weiderhold and Nicholas Rech.

In the next 67 years its assets grew from $15,000 to $36,000,000.00. The bank outgrew its 25 x 40 foot brick
building by 1975 and moved into a new one. The 1918 building served short periods as a real estate office and a
lawyer's office. Then it was donated to Dakota City by the bank directors, F.J. Poepl, M.J. Poepl, John Poepl and
Donald Fluegel and relocatd there in 1984.

The space in this metal lined building is divided into a vault, office, lobby and working space. Of special interest is
the "bandit barrier" which seperates the bank personnel and customers and may be the reason the bank was
never robbed.
