Barber Shop
Built in 1903 by Dennis Gibson as a barber shop. It continued to be used as a barber shop until it was moved
from its original site on Highway 3 in Rosemount. It was moved to Dakota City in 1994. The interior, including a
handsome set of mirrors and cabinets, has been carefully restored to the early 1900's period by Dakota City
volunteers.

The origin of the barber pole on the front of the building goes back to when the barber also let blood and
pulled teeth. The red and white stripes represent the bandage with which the barber wrapped his patient after
bloodletting.

The back room houses a dentist's equipment and a bathtub for customers in need of more than just a shave
and a haircut.
